The DIY landscape is evolving. 93% of homeowners plan to undertake a DIY project in the next 12 months and an increasing number of renters are seeking to make home improvements. In recent years, there has been an uptick in modern home improvement brands and innovative shifts, resulting in a new era of DIY leading to new opportunities within this market.

Our DIY Consumer Mindsets report, available to those with a premium My TrendBible subscription, explores how the DIY market has evolved. This report identifies four new DIY consumer mindsets impacting the market for 2025-2026: The DIY Beginners, The Healthy Homemakers, The Practical Value Seekers and The DIY Hobbyists.

The DIY Beginners

Consumers with this mindset are likely to be first-time buyers or renters and keen to inject personality into their spaces. New to DIY, these consumers need support and direction through tutorials as well as clear product guidance. Think of opportunities that make it easy for them; tool starter kits and project bundles.

The Healthy Homemakers

Consumers with this mindset seek to create a home free of toxic ingredients and potentially harmful materials, creating a space that is calm, happy and healthy. This consumer is uncompromisingly values-led and are willing to invest in products and solutions that align with these values.

The Practical Value Seekers

Consumers with this mindset are focused on improving the value of their homes. They aim to maximise the use of available space, materials, and tools, creating a home that works for them. Impacted by financial pressures, this mindset looks to energy efficiency and keeping household costs down.

 The DIY Hobbyists

Consumers with this mindset decorate for pleasure, and a sense of achievement as 51% of Brits say they chase a ‘DIY high’. They use their homes as a form of self-expression, regularly updating their spaces to suit their style and keep up with trends. They don’t focus on making their spaces appropriate for selling instead, they focus on making them fun for the now. This mindset can apply across homeowners and renters, as this consumer uses creative means to personalise their spaces.
